Counselling
There are many times in life when counselling becomes a necessity and Talking Therapy is proven to be one of the most effective of all therapies available. I have worked as a counsellor for 40 years and draw techniques from many different disciplines to help my clients.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)Our
Our thoughts control how we feel, and our feelings dictate how we behave. Our behaviour creates our daily lives. Therefore present day problems can only be solved by changing our thought patterns.
I help the client to become aware of old patterns of thought that are responsible for causing their emotional discomforts and difficulties in life, giving my client methods to think differently. This introduces more positive thoughts that enhance our feelings, and our behaviour beneficially.
This is short term therapy that provides a permanent gain, and can be used for treating depression, anxiety, panic attacks, anger problems and many other thigs.
Behavioural Therapy
Behavioural Therapy gives practice in different ways of handling issues as well as learning to view things from different viewpoints so that resolution can be reached. This could include role-playing, assertiveness training, and self mood enhancement.
As with cognitive therapy there is a collaboration between client and therapist, that is a short term therapy for long term gain.
Psychoanalytic
Known as the original “talking therapy” this involves analysing the root causes of behaviour and feelings, allowing us to know what our subconscious mind believes, and how that affects our emotions and behaviour.
I often employ my clinical hypnotherapy skills to get to the root of subconscious thinking and feeling, to analyse and heal old wounds and harmful beliefs as an added bonus.
Individual Psychology
Human beings are always moving toward the future, so obviously we are concerned with what will or wont happen, and often want our future to turn out better than our past.
We learn and grow from the mistakes and triumphs of our past, if we are wise enough to realise and acknowledge them. But if our goals are unrealistic or totally unattainable, this can lead to a sense of being a failure, which often damages our self confidence for good.
The goal of this type of therapy is to raise self confidence, self esteem by raising awareness of all our past achievements, no matter how small. Building on this reality then builds the confidence and self belief to take the steps needed to achieve future success and the meaningful relationships we want in life.
This involves the therapist in listening and questioning, so that the therapist can then give feed back to the client to foster new and more beneficial objectives.
Person-Centered. Carl Rogers in the 1940′s, believed that each of us has the innate ability to reach our full potential. As infants we are born with it, but because of early experiences, we may lose that belief in our own ability and indeed our own self worth. The responses we develop to our early experiences often tend to lower our self esteem, and therefore our ability to reach our full potential. This therapy helps us know our true potential again and to reach for and use it. This therapy is often considered the most optimistic approach to human potential, and is based on positive regard, acceptance, and appreciation of the client in the present moment. The client then learns to appreciate and believe in him/herself and carry that positivity into their future.
Gestalt Therapy. Gestalt, is a German word meaning “whole,” and essentially works by keeping the person focused on the here and now instead of on what has passed. Unresolved conflicts are worked out in the therapy session as if they are happening in that moment, but emphasis is placed on personal responsibility for one’s own well-being, by being aware of the choices and decisions that the client chooses now, to influence the client's own future.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy
This therapy focuses on solutions instead of problems. The premise is that if one does a step by step process, following certain assumptions, the client can find quick solutions to whatever is facing them. Like the cognitive-behavioral therapies this is short term therapy and sometimes might involve homework and working towards clearly defined goals.
I work by drawing on whichever approaches suit the individual requirements of my client.
